This morning, I had the pleasure of doing NewsOne with Roland Martin of Radio & TV One and we discussed a recent article that had something negative to say about how desireable Black women are. The article tried to say that Black men don't value Black women as highly as women from other races.
Needless to say, the article was poorly done from a scientific standpoint but that is not the point. The point is that we must recognize that there is a concerted effort to insult, divide and hurt Black America by people who dislike us-sometimes even ourselves. As Black people, we must control what we feed ourselves. If we continue to listen, digest and feel the ill effects of negative stereotypes, images, and perceptions, we will forget just awesome we really are! Remember, that is the plan so don't fall for it.
Roland was with me and we initiated a conversation on how AWESOME Black women are. I brought up Scandal and the gorgeous star, Kerry Washington. Here is a Black woman who is star of the #1 show on television right now who is married to a Black man in real life. Let's celebrate the positive and ignore the negative. After all, what we see is what we'll be. Look for the POSITIVE images of Black women in the media and simply click off the rest.
Black women, if you have not heard enough, please know that WE LOVE YOU and celebrate your beauty, wisdom, love and energetic attitude 7 days a week, 24 hours a day and 365 days a week.
We love your skin tones from dark, dark chocolate to caramel mocha. We love your full lips, wonderful hips, the way you walk, talk and laugh. As men, we bask in your sunlight, education and grow from your spiritual nurturing. Thank you for being our QUEENS!
